Oliver Osoyoos Wine Country’s terroir is very varied. Microclimates and soil composition differ drastically within very short distances, which is something that makes our region so unique. Follow this series as we breakdown the nuances of our diverse terroir.
First, the Golden Mile Bench! The Golden Mile Bench on the west side of the valley has a series of well-drained alluvial fans with stoney, gravelly soil along with the cooler morning sun. Home to Canada’s very first sub-GI (sub-geographical indication), created in 2015. Wineries growing here include Tinhorn Creek Vineyards, Gehringer Brothers Estate Winery, Hester Creek Estate Winery, Checkmate Artisanal Estate Winery, Rust Wine Co. and Fairview Cellars. Common varietals include Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, and Merlot.
